Yoga for Teachers began in 2011 as a community service project created by Marcie Leek, a Seattle-based ESL/English instructor, yoga practitioner, and 200-hour certified yoga teacher registered with Yoga Alliance. The aims for the series are several: first, to help raise teachers' awareness of the necessity of self-care; second, to teach them how immediately accessible that care can be through yoga; and finally, to give them a set of tools to help them cope with the physical and
emotional demands of their profession. Teachers will learn that yoga,
rather than remaining a mysterious practice “for people who have more time,”
can aid in career sustainability and personal fulfillment outside the classroom.
